Operation Geranium<\/h2>\n

“Grimentz – picturesque and flowery village”<\/em><\/p>\n

“Grimentz – Geranium and fresh snow”<\/em><\/p>\n

With these slogans, Grimentz won the tourists\u2019 heart in the 1980s and has been a member of the association of the most beautiful villages in Switzerland since 2016.<\/p>\n

The origin of the geranium tradition in Grimentz probably dates back to the early 1900s and even earlier. For the patron saint’s feast on August 16, the windows of the church were decorated with “requisitioned” geraniums from the parishioners of the village who were in charge of watering and care.<\/p>\n

The tradition has been lost over the years and the situation was severe. Every year, the village lost flowered balconies. This had to be remedied – Operation Geranium was born. Its general objective is to beautify the village to make it more colourful and attractive.<\/p>\n

Since watering has become the main problem, it was necessary to find volunteer waterers. What a success even in the first year. 30 waterers were involved and finally, 183 participants were registered, 56 more than in the previous year.<\/p>\n

Les Rahas has supported this commitment to heritage from the very first minute and is also delighted with its own geraniums, which are even more beautiful this year than the previous ones.<\/p>\n

“Grimentz – G\u00e9ranium et neige fraiche”<\/em><\/p>\n

Avec ces slogans, Grimentz a conquis le c\u0153ur des touristes dans les ann\u00e9es 80 et adh\u00e8re depuis 2016 \u00e0 l’association des plus beaux villages de Suisse. L\u2019origine de la tradition des g\u00e9raniums \u00e0 Grimentz date vraisemblablement du d\u00e9but des ann\u00e9es 1900 et m\u00eame bien avant. Pour le grand jour de la f\u00eate patronale le 16 aout les fen\u00eatres de l\u2019\u00e9glise ont \u00e9t\u00e9 d\u00e9cor\u00e9s avec des g\u00e9raniums \u00ab\u00a0r\u00e9quisitionn\u00e9s\u00a0\u00bb aupr\u00e8s des paroissiennes du village qui \u00e9taient en charge de l\u2019arrosage et des soins.<\/p>\n

Puisque l\u2019arrosage est devenu le probl\u00e8me principal il fallait trouver des arroseurs b\u00e9n\u00e9voles. Quel succ\u00e8s d\u00e9j\u00e0 la premi\u00e8re ann\u00e9e. 30 arroseurs se sont engag\u00e9s et finalement 183 participants ont \u00e9t\u00e9 enregistr\u00e9es soit 56 de plus que l\u2019ann\u00e9e pr\u00e9c\u00e9dentes.<\/p>\n

Les Rahas a soutenu cet engagement en faveur du patrimoine d\u00e8s la premi\u00e8re minute et se r\u00e9jouit \u00e9galement de ses propres g\u00e9raniums, qui sont encore beaucoup plus beaux cette ann\u00e9e que les pr\u00e9c\u00e9dents.<\/p>\n
